So today was our first FULL day at the store. It began at 4:30 a.m. I am so not a morning person. Luckily on the drive to Ariton I was able to dig deep and find my charming personality or at least I was awake by the time we got there.
Ken being the morning person that he is was up and ready to go. He was also super excited to install his "ding ding" bell. Now that is not the official name of course but it's a service station bell that rings when a customer drives up. He couldn't wait to hear it ring! By 6:00 a.m. the ding ding was installed, the coffee was made and we were ready for business. We were so proud of ourselves and then....our first gas customer arrives and we couldn't get the gas machine (that's the technical term!) to work. Thank goodness Steve came to our rescue. Crisis averted!
Things were moving along smoothly and then the phone rings. Our first phone call. So of course I answer it and guess who it was???? Ya'll it was 911! I had accidently dialed 911 when I was cleaning the phone. I will definitely remember our first call to the store.
I was so worried because our credit card machine was taking a really long time to process cards. I apologized to everyone for the delay. In my mind I just knew everyone was in a hurry but in reality not one single person complained.
Mimi and Nicholas came to bring lunch and homemade cookies. That was a welcome treat! Nicholas worked in his shop for a while and that involved several trips to the hardware section of the store. Stay tuned for a post about his business.
By the end of the day Ken's "ding ding" bell was well worn in and a lot of people commented on how much they liked it. He is fast asleep now and I bet he is hearing in ring in his sleep.
Lessons learned today...don't be in such a rush. There is no need to always be in a hurry up mode. Oh, and be careful when cleaning the phone!
